Immediate effects
Cocaine can increase alertness while causing restlessness, anxiety and paranoia. Brief effects do not rule out serious toxicity.

Major risks
Heart attack, abnormal heart rhythms, stroke and seizures can occur. Severe intoxication may also involve very high temperature and difficulty breathing.

Repeated use
Dependence can develop. Repeated exposure can damage the nose or lungs depending on how it is used; lasting heart and mental-health problems can occur.
