What it is

DXM is a cough suppressant in many over-the-counter products. Misuse can cause dissociation, hallucinations, agitation and poor coordination.

Major risks

Poisoning can involve slowed breathing, seizures, coma and cardiovascular effects. Combination products may contain acetaminophen or other drugs with separate toxicities.

Serotonergic medicines
