Immediate effects

Methamphetamine increases nervous-system activity. Sweating, restlessness, raised heart rate and temperature can occur. Effects may outlast those of other stimulants.

Major risks

Severe toxicity can include chest pain, abnormal heartbeat, stroke, seizures, extreme temperature and kidney injury.

Repeated use

Dependence and severe sleep disruption can develop. Persistent paranoia, mood changes, dental problems, weight loss and infections are reported.
